Online marketing could become the next "subject" to learn as a soft skill for high schools (and other near-professional schools)

This post emerged from a phone call between two educators...

From a talk with Jeff Hutt

1.  Why does everyone need to go to college?  (see his discussion of Skills with Dennis Yuzenas from 2010)

Part 2  Skills with Jeff and Dennis
Part 3 with Jeff and Dennis

2.  What is the purpose of school?  is it just a safe holding tank to keep young people until they are ready for the factory?  Is it a training ground for learning how to collaborate?

3.  What is the point of distance education?  Do we need to put an

4.  Traditional schools (as we knew it) had two functions:  we had to transfer information to the next generation and we had to civilize them.  Soft skills are about continuing the civilization.  it's more than knowing what's needed for the workforce.  It's knowing what's important for life.

What's that quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.?

You might not have found a reason for living until you found something to die for.

Some people report feeling more alive when they become parents.  They have something to protect, even potentially with their own life.
Quote by MLK

"Band of brothers" and being part of a team.

5.  Jeff and I discussed the role of athletics.  You can have a higher rate of participation in the school if you have a smaller school.  More students can become athletes if you have

This is similar to journals.  You have more people writing and becoming "authors", but does the quality of the scholarship deteriorate?

So here is the idea:   Can young people gain a reason to participate in the economy?   Can they click on videos and make comments on blogs?   Can they click on my websites and I'll have my students click on your websites?

Can students identify causes or issues that they are passionate about and then promote those issues through clicks, Tweets, LIKES and email messages?  YourNetImpact.com

If school is a place to warehouse kids because the parents are in the factory (or now ... working at home or commuting to work in an office), can we have the kids do chores?  What's the digital equivalent of gathering eggs or sweeping the barn or milking the cows?  Weeding the vegetable patch?

How about this:

Here are Steve McCrea’s tips about “How to market yourself and your products and services efficiently and cheaply” -- (Note: Most of these suggestions ARE NOT FREE, because they involve your time. Time is money, time is limited, so hire someone to do some of these actions for you). HINT: Teenagers are skilled at these activities and they would LOVE to have real-world experience, too. I have a team of teens who want to work for you. 954 646 8246 everyoneishere@gmail.com
